Written for David R Purkiss, Then I Shall See is a brass band work built around a new original melody inspired by the devotional words “Sweet is Thy rest, my God, my King.” It weaves this fresh melodic idea together with the traditional hymn tune Deep Harmony and the associated text, creating a piece that feels both familiar and newly illuminated. Fragments of the original tune are heard throughout, with an abridged verse of Deep Harmony helpingbring the piece to big conclusion.
